How to Wash Your Hands Properly
There’s a big chance you’re missing some important steps when you wash your hands.
95% of people fail to wash their hands for long enough to kill harmful bacteria. Here are 5 easy steps to ensure you’re washing your hands the right way according to your favorite handwashing advocates (us) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
STEP 01 / WET YOUR HANDS
Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
STEP 02 / LATHER YOUR HANDS
Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
STEP 03 / SCRUB YOUR HANDS
Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
STEP 04 / RINSE YOUR HANDS
Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
STEP 05 / DRY YOUR HANDS
Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
