Handwash Upcycle:
Zero Waste Natural Candle
Candles can change the mood and turn a space into a home. Our bright idea? Have your empty Soapply bottle cut down and pour your own zero waste candle in a few simple steps.
CREATE YOUR OWN ZEO WASTE NATURAL CANDLE
What you need
Upcycled Soapply glass
~1 cup soy or coconut wax
Candle wick
Double boiler (or a pot and heat proof bowl)
Metal spoon
Chopsticks or 2 pens
How to make it
1. Wash your hands!
2. Melt your wax in a double boiler, stirring frequently, so that you have about 6 fl oz once liquified.
3. While your wax is melting, affix the wick to your Soapply glass with either a little hot wax or super glue.
4. Once your wax has completely melted, remove it from the stove and let it cool for 15 mins. Pour slowly into your container + center the wick by securing it between chopsticks or 2 pens.
5. Let your candle set for 24 hours, trim the wick to 1/4" long, place in a safe spot and enjoy!
Pro tip: The first burn is important! Burning your candle for 2-3 hours after you first light it allows the wax to melt all the way to the edges of its container. This will ensure that when your wax cools, the surface of the candle will remain even!
